Little wonder then that Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), the most advanced coronary imaging modality, is now fully integrated with the hospital’s Cath lab.

The first cardiologist in Karnataka to perform radial intervention (with wrist as the entry point for the catheter) procedure way back in 2006. As of today, Dr. Yusuf has performed more than 22,000 radial procedures. Having specialised in trans-radial approach, he champions it over the relatively conventional method of passing the stent to the heart through femoral procedure (through the groin) for angioplasty. He conducted Karnataka’s first live radial interventional workshop in 2007. A pioneer in complex coronary interventions including multiple-stenting, chronic block intervention, left main stenting, etc. Has been instrumental in removing bifurcation blocks using different technologies like DK crush, Culotte technique, rotablation (catheter-based technique to remove hard plaque from coronary arteries), laser ablation, fractional flow reserve (FFR) etc.

Another area of focus has been the implantation of artificial pacemakers and other devices in patients with disorders of heart rhythm and conduction. Dr. Yusuf has implanted more than 500 pace-makers and Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (AICD – a device to prevent sudden death), CRTP (a device to improve the life expectancy in heart failure) and CRTD (a combo device used in heart failure) implantations.

Conducted peripheral interventions with precision; performed procedures like iliac and femoral artery stenting infra popliteal interventions for acute limb ischemia and to salvage limb. Another area of interest is aortic interventions like TEVAR (a procedure to repair aortic aneurysm and dissection without surgery). He performed coastal Karnataka’s first hybrid intervention for aortic arch replacement in 2018. (a joint procedure between interventional cardiologist and cardiac surgeon).

Dr. Yusuf Kumble recently developed keen interest in structural heart disease intervention. It was a feather in his cap when he performed Karnataka state’s first mitral valve replacement without surgery (PTMR valve in valve).

Indiana Hospital became the pride when coastal Karnataka’s first TAVI (Aortic valve replacement without surgery) was done under the leadership of Dr. Yusuf Kumble.

A pioneer in paediatric interventional cardiology like ASD closure, PDA closure, etc., and also paediatric valve opening procedures like mitral valve, aortic valve conditions, etc.
